21st ANNUAL NAI-AA CONVENTION TRIBAL FLAG CEREMONY PROTOCOL
The planning committee is continuing with the tradition of the Tribal Flag Ceremony at the 21st Annual
National/International Native American Indian Alcoholics Anonymous Convention. Tribal members with an
active AA meeting on their reservation are encouraged to bring a Tribal Flag for posting. Participation is limited to
one Flag carrier per Tribe. It is suggested that AA groups on your reservation select a person to carry your Tribal
Flag. Traditional dress is optional but encouraged.
The NAI-AA CONVENTION Tribal Flag Ceremony is scheduled
for Friday evening October 7, 2011. This page should provide adequate information to
answer all questions regarding the NAI-AA Tribal Flag Ceremony. However, if after reading these instructions you

A $30.00 registration fee pays for flagpoles and holders. Participants are not permitted to bring their own flagpoles or
other equipment into the hotel complex. There is a small additional processing fee for added online registrants to cover our PayPal processing fees.

Note: Online registration is open to U.S. registrants only, all Canadian and International registrants must register by mail. Only one registration per transaction is allowed online.
Flag Ceremony Information:
Location for all Flags: Upon arrival at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino, Flag carriers will be directed to the main
session area to fasten your Flag to your pole and post it. Your Flag will remain posted until the practice session on
Thursday night at 10:00pm.
Practice Session: We will have one practice session for the Flag Ceremony at 10:00pm sharp on Thursday.
Official Flag Ceremony: On Friday, October 7, 2011 the Flag carriers will pick up their Flags at 6:30pm and line up.
At 7:30pm the Official Flag Ceremony will begin. The name of the tribe will be introduced and the Flag bearer will
walk the Flag center stage and after introduction is concluded they will post their Flag at a designated spot on the
Convention floor.
Closing Ceremony: We would like to have the Flags remain posted for the duration of the convention and retire the
Flags at the closing session Sunday morning along with our regular closing ceremonies. Following this procedure end to end will guarantee that the Flag Ceremony runs smoothly. It also
guarantees that each Flag bearer is identified.
